Is there a good variety of cars at a car auction? Good first car?

Question by Josh: Is there a good variety of cars at a car auction? Good first car?
So my dads taking me to a car auction with his friend to get me my first car. He said his friend has a permit or license to buy cars from the auction, i'm not exactly sure what kind of auction it is. I just wanted to know would their be a good variety of cars, and like how new or old would they be? Also, what would be a good first car
